Waterproof & Durability Testing

UV & Corrosion Resistance

Long-term exposure testing for UV degradation and corrosion.

Overview

Solar lighting fixtures spend their entire service life exposed to sunlight, moisture, and atmospheric pollutants. Our UV & Corrosion Resistance testing program accelerates years of environmental exposure into months, ensuring that materials, coatings, and components maintain their integrity and appearance over the product’s 10+ year lifespan.

UV Accelerated Weathering Test

Equipment: QUV Accelerated Weathering Tester

Parameter Test Condition
Lamps UVA-340 (simulates sunlight 295-365nm)
Irradiance 0.89 W/m² at 340nm
Cycle 8h UV at 60°C → 4h condensation at 50°C
Duration 3,000 hours (≈5 years Florida equivalent)

Evaluation Criteria

  • Color change: ΔE < 3.0 (measured by spectrophotometer)
  • Gloss retention: >60% of original value
  • Chalking: Rating ≥ 8 (ASTM D4214 scale)
  • Cracking: No visible cracks at 10x magnification
  • Impact strength: >80% of original (for plastic components)

Salt Spray Corrosion Test

Equipment: Salt Spray Chamber (per ASTM B117)

Parameter Test Condition
Solution 5% NaCl, pH 6.5-7.2
Temperature 35°C ± 2°C
Duration 1,000 hours (for coastal deployments)
Humidity 95-100% RH

Evaluation After Salt Spray

  • No red rust on steel components after 500 hours
  • No white rust on zinc-plated parts after 1,000 hours
  • No pitting or crevice corrosion on aluminum
  • Bolt threads remain functional and free of seizure
  • Gaskets and seals maintain elasticity and waterproofing

Material Selection for Corrosion Resistance

  • Fasteners: SUS316 stainless steel (marine grade)
  • Pole: Hot-dip galvanized steel + powder coating (dual protection)
  • Enclosure: Die-cast aluminum (ADC12) with chromate conversion coating
  • Seals: EPDM rubber (UV and ozone resistant)
  • Cables: XLPE insulation (UV resistant, -40°C to +125°C)
